VISIOLUX
This Word appeared in my drawings spontaneously. Whilst drawing portraits I was considering the problem of the eyes. Rather than accept some of the anatomical solutions, or to emphasize psychology and disposition of the character through the form, I had the need to transform the eye into an instrument or a focal point from which comes the statement. Sensory stimulation gave movement to the inner content. Drawings are an embodied appearance of the spiritual processes which can, this way, be brought to the light of day. Hence the content of the word visiolux as well – the Enlightenment through a Vision. This word comes from the eyes of the action promoters in my work; stylized with a drawing gesture it symbolizes the aspiration for awakening.
Contents of the drawings are often reflected in the stylized human figures, mysterious relationships amongst the characters, as well as in strange symbolism and messages. The work is mythological in character and greatly inspired by similar performances through the history of art. Mythology of Egypt, Greece, Near and Middle East and compositional and narrative solutions of this contents imagery, helped me create my own mythology. Myths have also always represented the spiritual principles that are universal. They speak about the internal relation of forces, of all the conflicts and aspirations of the human spirit, the laws of nature and the universe and our human problems in meeting them. From the psychological point of view this represents the meeting point of a man and his legacy, darkness, complexes, rampant desires and passions. These are the maturation processes, or images of evil fate and a fall, if a man is not able to find a solution and balance. They are showing our nature and the nature of the environment, micro and macro cosmos. It is a collective knowledge of the order of things and thus has an essential and archetypical power. Using this pattern of expression, symbols and characters are renamed into one personal semantics and syntax and speak of my motivations, problems and contents.
Associatively, I have created new characters and symbols. They come from the unconsciousness and in that sense they are very similar to the generally accepted meanings. That is why I am analyzing the drawings to get to the imagery, or the knowledge, of the relationships between mental powers, for which I would not believe exist because they are manifested in uncontrollable bursts during the creation process. Specificity of my work and this personal mythology is reflected in the use of the signs of the market and consumption, graphic and industrial design and pop culture. They are an integral part of the drawing and its contents, and are renamed through a personal prism, so they reach symbolic as well as associative value. Such stylized fire represents the symbol of divine and speaks about the plane of action where the spirit of creative principle is present, about a very important event that leads to soul progression, its maturation on the climb to the following levels of awareness and wholeness. Characters are often inspired by the movies, comic-books or other form of popular reality presentations. They usually have glasses, wings or beams of electricity, that speak of their freedom epithets and spiritual aspirations or abilities, capabilities of the insights into the dark and the unconscious field of events.
Wall Drawing
Wall drawing, mural, as well as graffiti, stencils and wall messages are most often motivated by the artists need to be socially engaged and to point out some of his or the represented groups attitudes, or they are complicated narratives expressing various social changes, movements, social injustices or collective ideas. Looking through the history of art, maybe Mexican wall painting is the most representative example, as well as recent images on the walls around the world, one global phenomenon of street and public works of art which are becoming more and more precise in style, way and the chosen theme. In that respect, I have found my approach of how to express my technical and creative artistic abilities in a public space. The starting point of my work is a “small drawing”, art medium which is most often the most intimate, the most spontaneous and most direct record of artists thoughts, feelings and attitudes. Project is based on the idea to translate my attitudes about myself and the society, manifested through the spontaneous artistic expression of a “small drawing”, into monumental dimensions and thus draw attention to a wider social context of my approach. Project implies performance of the drawing with charcoal on a wall of a gallery. Choice of template, as well as the composition, is dependant on the space I am reacting in.
